How to fix a Wyze Plug that does not update

I was setting up a Wyze Plug last night and I ran into one in particular that was being a pain to get updated. It would keep asking me to update after the configuration finished but it simply would not finish the update process.

The plug Wyze plug simply kept blinking blue, and whenever I would go to it within the app it would just keep asking me to do the update over and over again.

Luckily, I was able to find a fix for my issue with a little searching around, and I hope that this helps someone out there in getting around this issue as it seems to happen more often than I would think based on my reading.

Steps to fix the Wyze Plug update/upgrade issue

  1. Unplug the Wyze plug from the outlet
  2. Delete it from the Wyze app
  3. Plug the plug back into the outlet
  4. Hold the button on the side of the plug for about 8-10 seconds, you should get 2 clicks during this process
  5. Add the plug back to the app, but this time when it asks you to update press Cancel.
  6. Wait until the blinking blue light on the plug goes solid
  7. Now, go into the Account section > Firmware Update and update the plug from there

I attempted to do the update from the plug itself again, it didn’t work. The only way it completed the update for me was to go into the Account section of the app, and doing it from there.
